April 29 is Arbor Day, a day for celebrating the planting of trees. Sterling Morton and his wife, Caroline, wanted to see the world be a greener place (translation — lots and lots and lots of trees), because they help our environment, and help us, in so many ways. It is estimated that on the very first Arbor Day, April 10, 1872, nearly one million trees were planted in Nebraska. You can even visit Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, Nebraska, to learn more about all things trees.
Unless you are Euell Gibbons, chances are you will not be spending most of your time out in the woods eating pine trees, although many parts are edible, so this is the next best thing. Celebrate Arbor Day by making yummy treats using Wholegrain Cooke Cutters. You’ll be glad you did.
Make it smell like Christmas everyday with Scentsicles. No need to head out into the fresh air and get a little exercise hiking around in the forest when you can watch movies about people hiking out in the forest and have it smell as if you are right there with them.
What better way to promote the message of Arbor Day than wearing it around. This great shirt comes in all kinds of great nature-themed colors like azalea, coral, and daisy, plus regular-sounding color names, too. The Plant More shirt puts your dream for trees right out there for everyone to see. Groovy.
Take Arbor Day to heart and get your own Arbor Day Tree Growing Kit. You can grow your own Red Maple from planting to seedling to sapling. The kits includes a little mini greenhouse, seeds, planting materials, and instructions so you can get watch nature take shape, right in your own yard.
Go to the library! Go to the bookstore! Go rent the movie! But whatever you do, check out Dr. Seuss’ wonderful book, The Lorax. It’s a perfect story for Arbor Day and everyone one, large to small, one and all, will be able to take away the simple, but very important message about trees.
Help see more trees planted in the world by becoming a member of the Arbor Day Foundation. Not only do you get to do your part to see more trees planted, the best part is you have the choice of receiving ten free tree saplings to plant in your neighborhood or you can have ten trees planted in one of our national forests. What a great way to celebrate a special holiday. Plant a tree and have a Happy Arbor Day.
