East Meets West Day is April 25th!

Today is the day for cross-town rivalries. Where I live, that means the Spartans against the Falcons. Wait… actually, it’s a day commemorating the day in 1945 when U.S. and Russian troops met for the first time in Germany. You know what? I’m going to change it up a little; let’s do some East/West mashups!

When I was in high school, there was an on-campus store run by the PTA that sold things like paper, pens and pencils, rulers and protractors, compasses (mathematical and navigational), PE clothes, candy bars and other sweet treats, and—of course—cups o’ noodles. Now that I’m all grown up, I have to admit that I still like me some ramen every now and then, but I don’t want to eat out of a styrofoam cup like a kid. There’s something a little more refined, thankfully, though not too refined: the Ceramic Noodle Cup. Only in the West would we romanticize ramen enough to want have a porcelain cup o’ noodles, right?

Classic cup o’ noodles style without the yucky styrofoam.

And don’t forget about the genius Ramen Spoon + Fork. Slick stainless steel crafted to be the perfect spork for ramen and soups. Designed and manufactured by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

In a related food-eating vein, the Bento Box Single with Fork pairs the convenience of a bento box (no more flattened sandwiches!) with the convenience of a fork (unless, y’know, you like using chopsticks, which is fine, too, of course). This bento comes in white and silver and includes a removable partition… and a fork! Plus, it’s microwave safe and dishwasher safe, though I presume not at the same time.

Now, my last mashup is really beneficial if you’re traveling internationally… or, if for some reason you live in a house with European- or Asian-type wall outlets. (If you live in the US and have a house like that, let me know because I want to visit you and marvel at your outlets!) The Universal 3-in-1 Adapter, Converter, and USB Charger lives up to its name; it really does have worldwide compatibility! It works with electronics up to 25 watts and can fit in the palm of your hand, so you don’t have to worry about packing a bunch of bulky items when you really want to save space for that extra pair of stilettos or the gifts you’re bringing home for the kids.

If you travel internationally, keep one of these in each of your bags!

Do you have some East/West mashups you can share with me? Or maybe you can let me in on your cross-town rivalries! (Panthers against Cougars, anyone? Or Mavericks against Colonels?)

Haha. I thought this was going to be a Crips vs Bloods Blog. Happy to see it’s not. Although now I kinda wanna know the differences besides the obvious blue vs red.

The Crips and Bloods are definitely a crosstown rivalry in Los Angeles. You can learn more about them on Wikipedia.
