You’ve tried the rest, now try the weird and unusual!– hobbies, that is. Yes, it’s no secret that people are weird and that we love them and their, ahem, interests through and through. Weird hobbies can be seen as extreme: extremely ridiculous, extremely intriguing, extremely ingenious, but never extremely boring. And it’s this fresh take on what “limits” mean that lets us all see things with a new purpose or to introduce purpose to something totally different than anything we’ve seen up until now. Today, we take another look at the things that make some people tick, the things they do for entertainment, and just the cray-cray things people do.
I don’t know if I want to hug the little girl inside me or push her outta the way when I hear the phrase “Extreme Barbie Jeep Racing“. Every girl’s dream toy now outlives childhood and travels down a dangerous path of adrenaline, dirt, and dangling limbs. Oh, and a broken-off gear shift. And a very steep hill. And a large amount of enthusiasm. Barbie jeep racing isn’t confined to only Barbie jeeps, but to any Power Wheels with some little life left, life that parents and children luckily failed to realize. At least they’re wearing helmets. Watch all the tomfoolery below:
If exercising never was your thing, join the club– the Prancercising club, that is. Prancercise is a form of exercise made popular by a viral video (below) from its creator, well, prancing along with such an elated demeanor, you wonder where to get whatever she’s using. We kid, but there is a sort of childlike, carefree tone to the movement of prancercise that’s made it so popular. Some people love the horse-inspired movement of this low-impact aerobic activity, and others, well, just think it’s funny-looking. You be the judge:
Enough spiritual enhancement, it’s time to get back to some adrenaline-pumping, crowd-cheering, edge-of-your-seat… Penny Farthing Racing? Yes, those old-timey bicycle things are making a comeback competition-style! High wheelers, as they’re otherwise known, aren’t for the light-hearted or light-footed either: pennies are dang hard to ride! The center of gravity is thrown off a bit by the front wheel size, and riding uphill… Well, let’s just say there’s a good chance of a face smash with the ground. Still, pennies can be credited as the beginning of cycling as a sport because of the high speed they can reach as well as the amount of manuevering and skill involved. Lance Armstrong, eat your heart out!
Yup, just like the movie! Dodgeball is just like you remember from grade school, except no one is crying, there’s no recess bell, and everyone is all grown up! And so is the game: dodgeball leagues are poppin’ up all over the world, and thanks to tools like Meetup, finding a team to join is easy. Just be ready to keep your eyes and hands open and jump and tumble and twist with all your swiftness!
Duct tape: is there nuthin’ it can’t do? Duct tape clothing is even possible with the heavy-duty silver tape! But, as you can see from the above photo, duct tape comes in a multitude of colors now and even patterns, so achieving something stylish and perhaps even stunning is much easier. The hard part is desiging your new DIY clothing. That, and getting into them. And out of them.
And there you have it: five more interesting hobbies that people love to indulge in and others just like to stare at. Still, we wonder what the world would be like without weird hobbies like Zentai, LARPing, and duct tape clothing. Would everyone be knitting, baking, gardening, and playing bridge? Would we have a need for words like “awesome”, “epic”, and “weird”? Would the world turn into an episode from Father Knows Best, black and white and all? All we know is, we’re glad people are strange, if only for their weird hobbies and interests!
