4 Amazing Reasons to Stay Hydrated

July 29, 2013

H20 is the only thing saving your body from total dehydration. Everyone knows that prolonged dehydration leads to death. This is why man can’t survive days in the desert, without lots of water to drink. Water is the single most important thing we can deliver to our bodies, that is, if you care about living. It is common knowledge that water is a necessary part of a healthy diet, but did you also know it has some incredible other uses? If simply surviving isn’t enough to get you to hydrate more, then check out some of these other uses.

Energy

According to USGS (United States Geological Survey), Water makes up approximately 60% of the adult human body. Incredibly, water has numerous functions in the body, but one of the most important is supplying us with valuable energy. Energy giving carbohydrates and proteins are transported through the bloodstream, but this wouldn’t happen without water to carry them along.

Beautiful Skin

Now that summer is nearly here, it’s time to start thinking about hydrating the skin. The sun’s warm rays can feel amazing, but they can also dry out the skin, leaving wrinkles in its wake. Luckily, a splash of water across the face or a quick shower will actually shrink pores. Drinking the right amount of water each day plumps the skin, keeping wrinkles at bay.

Detoxification

You can’t sweat without drinking water and only sweating maintains your body’s core temperature during a vigorous workout. Sweating is also the body’s natural way of releasing unwanted toxins. In order to stimulate this natural detoxification, you need to have plenty of water in your system. Because sweat is also water leaving your body, it can lead to dehydration. Drinking lots of water replenishes you after sweating too.

Being proactive about hydration, especially during a workout, is the single most important thing you can do for your body and it only requires a trip to the faucet. Reusable water bottles are not only good for the environment, but they’re also very convenient. They can be filled up anywhere, even the water fountain at your local gym.

Our favorite is the Eau Good Filter Water Bottle by Black + Blum, because it filters water on the go. This means, if your only access to drinking water is unfiltered, you can still enjoy the crisp cool taste of freshly filtered water, without the plastic mess. And, it is great for the environment. The bottle’s binchotan charcoal filter lasts around 6 months, after which time the filter can be replaced. You can even recycle the binchotan charcoal into many different ways:

  • Grind it up, and add it to soil or compost for nutrients
  • Use it as a moisture absorber in your closet and dresser drawers
  • Works as an odor absorber for shoes, trash cans, and even litter boxes

Lose Weight

Water is essential to any serious dieter. Drinking more water throughout the day will make you feel fuller, therefore leading you to eat less. As it turns out, you may only be thirsty and not require any food at all. On top of it’s appetite-curbing benefits, drinking more water also increases your metabolism rate, which in turn burns more calories. Researchers estimate that over the course of a year, a person who increases his water consumption by 1.5 liters a day would burn an extra 17,400 calories, totaling for a weight loss of approximately five pounds!

So next time, instead of reaching for a snack when you’re hungry, why not reach for a water bottle instead? Water is filling and ultra-good for you, so don’t be afraid to have a tall glass of water before eating and always at hand.

In the summer it is essential to stay hydrated. Because we tend to sweat more, we lose way more fluids then are body can consume. But if we drink water and also Gatorade we can restore some of the fluids lost. Great Post!!!
