Bright Lights, Starry Night: Throwing an Oscars-themed Bash
February 22, 2013
Adorn yourself with your finest cubic zirconia and your old prom outfit and shine that track lighting on your front door because this Sunday, February 24th, is the Academy Awards Ceremony, and the glammed-out party at your place outshines all the rest! Some love debating the nominees and winners, others fancy themselves fashion critics and provide their own commentary to celebrity red carpet style, and even more are ready to brace for an ab workout of laughs and possibly crude wit at Seth MacFarlane’s first shot at hosting the film industry’s largest event. It’s easy to daydream what it would be like to be dressed to kill for one night of adoring attention and magical glamor– or for the men, one night of women who just can’t resist a fine man in a fine suit. But just because we lack the celebrity status the paparazzi go nuts for doesn’t mean we can’t partake in festivities of our own!
So you want to throw an Oscars-themed viewing party? First thing’s first: line your front entryway with snazzy red carpet and rope to make guests feel the glitz with every step. Make cardboard cutouts of photographers and spray-paint them black, strategically placed behind each rope. A mini strobe light creates that ego-feeding frenzy of flashing bulbs and an over-the-top atmosphere. Then let guests be their own photographers with an Oscars photo booth!

Or create your own banner using an old bed sheet, stencils, and spray paint with the sponsors of your choice, like this one behind Amy Adams!
Wait, aren’t we forgetting something? It’s the one question on everyone’s mind: what will your guests be wearing?

Ask guests to revive their old prom outfits– hey, it sure beats letting the moths in the closet get to them!
Now the scene is set, the blinding flashes from cameras overwhelms, and the intoxicating aroma of hors d’oeuvres and– wait, you did remember to feed your guests, right? Channel your inner sous chef with some enticing and hearty snacks, or head to your nearest grocery store for bulk items like crab cakes, meatballs, or empanadas! Check out some of the easy snacks here and complementary Oscar decor ideas. And remember, delicate bites only!

Use unsalted popcorn with different available seasonings and sauces for guests to create their own unique blend of Oscar Popcorn!
Need more inspiration? Take some cues from the pictures below! Think of incorporating black, gold, and silver dinnerware and utensils; small touches like flowers, foil stars and streamers, candles, and ribbons add inexpensive class and simple elegance:
When the Oscar Awards Ceremony starts, the party doesn’t end! Oscar bingo accompanied with Oscar-themed cocktails like Moet’s Silver Screen Punch and the Moet Starlet (and even charming champagne cocktails) let the adrenaline from thirsty photographers, meetings with fellow stars and starlets, and stimulated taste buds relax a little and finally enjoy the ambience and celebration.
Just can’t get enough of Oscar-mania? Download the free app from the Oscars website (you know that there’s an app for everything now). And when the night is over, don’t dread the thought of reentering your mundane life of 9-to-5 hours, scrubbing dishes, and making your own meals. Think of it this way: at least we can enjoy our privacy long after the Academy Awards and walk around without makeup or with our bellies hanging out without the threat of making the cover of National Enquirer. One night of lustrous decorations and an extravagant gala with an Oscars-themed bash is enough to create a memorable party where the ultimate star of the night is the host/hostess, you!

Super cute ideas for an Oscar party! Love it. You could even incorporate board games like Scene It or Mad About Trivia MOVIES, and then give makeshift awards to the winners. I also heard of people playing drinking games to the actual Oscars themselves! Haha. With rules like:
Take a sip of your drink whenever…
…anyone is called an innovator, a genius, beautiful or my best friend
…someone thanks the Academy in their acceptance speech
…someone asks Who are you wearing? on the red carpet
…someone says thank you over 10 times in a single acceptance speech
…you confuse Meryl Streep and Glenn Close
Happy Movie Viewing to all!
