Best Drinks To Go With Your Winter Meals

January 4, 2013

Hot chocolate, egg nog, and warm apple cider are winter holiday favorites, but here are some other drinks to add to your list (sorry kids, for those 21 and up only). From wines to beers, here’s a brief list of beverages that complement your hearty holiday meals. Pair these drinks with your favorite winter supper today.

Red wines:

Cabernet Sauvignon – Great with dark chocolate, strong cheese, and steak, especially with perfectly seared Filet Mignon or prime rib.

Pinot Noir – Goes well with ham, fish, mushrooms, creamy sauces, and spicy seasonings.

White wines:

Riesling – A versatile wine you can pair with roast duck, smoked fish, and even desserts and salads.

Sauvignon Blanc – Serve with turkey and savory sides like roasted vegetables, herb-filled stuffing, and rich sauces.

Beer:

Victory Prima Pils – This pilsner is fantastic for rich and fatty holiday foods.

Sierra Nevada Celebration – Perfect for getting into the holiday spirit, with its spicy floral flavors and dry finish.

Hard ciders:

Ace Hard Perry Cider – Using the best apples, this cider is a refreshing alternative to beer and elegant enough to bring to the dinner table.

Woodchuck Hard Cider – Try the limited release winter ciders for a crisp and refreshing drink.

Cocktails:

Fireplace Cooler – Cinnamon and orange peel make this drink perfect for the holiday season. (Find the recipe here.)

Hot Buttered Rye – With a maple-cream mixture and fresh nutmeg, you’ll love this whiskey cocktail for keeping cozy on cold nights. (See recipe here.)

To go with these drinks, 2shopper’s got lots of unique glasses, cocktail mixers, and beer mugs for everyone. You can browse through them for last-minute gifts or great additions to your kitchen cabinet.
